FED: Balibo widow hopeful new report will bring out truth

The widow of one of five Australian newsmen killed in East Timor in 1975 says she hopes a
a new report expected out tomorrow will finally uncover the truth behind the deaths.

But SHIRLEY SHACKLETON, whose husband Channel Seven reporter GREG was one of those killed
at Balibo, says the report will not be the end of the matter, even if it finally identifies
those responsible for the killings.

Foreign Minister ALEXANDER DOWNER is tomorrow expected to table in federal parliament the
report by TOM SHERMAN, author of the original 1996 report.

Meantime Mr DOWNER, who will discuss the future of East Timor in Jakarta next week with
President BJ HABIBIE, today met with Fretilin resistance spokesman MARI ALKATIRI to discuss
Australia's new position on East Timor.
