WA: Psychologist cleared of sex abuse of patient

A Perth psychologist has been cleared of sexually assaulting and whipping a bulimic
patient he got to act as a slave .. but's been hit with a 10-thousand dollar fine for
contempt of court.

A Western Australia District Court jury last night found 64-year-old BRUCE ALISTAIR
BEATON was only trying to help the 22-year-old woman when he made her wear a dog collar
and call him master.

But while Mr BEATON'S family were relieved by the verdict .. there was bad news with
Judge TROY SWEENY fining the psychologist for contempt of court.

The fine is for refusing to name a colleague during his trial.

Outside the court .. Mr BEATON said last night the whole experience has ended his 30-year-career
.. and he'll never work in psychology again.
